Harpa, in collaboration with the Reykjavík Music City, Rás 2 and Landsbankinn, is hosting Upprásin, a concert series dedicated to grassroots Icelandic music, across musical genres. Upprásin is now taking place for the third year in a row and a total of 27 bands will perform, three on each concert night.
Ticket prices are only 2000 kr. but it is possible to contribute a higher amount during the ticket sales process, which will go directly to the artists.
Rakur
Rakur is an indie-jangle pop-rock band. Their songs largely deal with loneliness, distress and insecurity, often in a cheerful soundscape. The guitar lines are free and fun, the bass and drums are cheerful and the vocals are sincere.
The band consists of Ragnar N. Gunnarsson Breiðfjörð, Ásgeir Kjartansson, Breki Hrafn Halldóru Ómars, Samúel Reynis and Ernir Ómarsson.
Alter Eygló
Alter Eygló is a project by Eygló Höskuldsdóttir Viborg, a performing artist and composer, where she plays with the staging and music of karaoke. Alter Eygló has been active since 2020 when she held a short karaoke concert on the Twitch website at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. Since then, she has performed and had installations at Gallerý Kannski (2022), Hamraborg Festival (2023) and Hátíðni (2024). Her music draws inspiration from pop music of the 80s and 90s, and the audience is given the opportunity to sing along and dance a little to the music.
Geðbrigði
Geðbrigði has haunted the underground scene in Iceland for the past two years. Neither heavy metal nor punk nor rock, but everything, and more. Gloomy-heavy-punk-rock is as accurate a description of something as indescribable as the band Geðbrigði. Geðbrigði's music and performance reflect the word itself, unpredictable and at times uncomfortable. Those curious about the band can approach them at concerts and social media, as the band has not yet released any material.
