John Cage visited Japan in 1962 and held several concerts there with the composers David Tudor, Toshio Ichiyanagi and Yoko Ono. Later sources refer to this visit as the "Cage Shock". The trip had a great impact on both Cage and the composers and musicians he met in Japan. Among them was the composer Toru Takemitsu. Cage and Takemitsu developed a close friendship and mutual admiration, writing about each other's music and commissioning each other over the years. In 1986, the performance duo [THE] from San Diego asked Cage and Takemitsu to compose a piece together for their concert at the Pacific Ring Festival. The work "vis-à-vis" is listed in the work list of both as a collaborative project, but the sheet music is nowhere to be found. The work has long been considered lost, or perhaps it never existed?

Through extensive research over the past year Adapter has most likely solved the mystery..

The concert will feature works by John Cage, Toru Takemitsu, [THE] and Adapter
