Megas for Piano and String Quartet - Sunday Classics

Megas for Piano and String Quartet is a concert which takes a somewhat different approach to Megas' music than what we are accustomed to. His lyrics and his singing will be abscent, placing the entire focus on the musical compositions instead, allowing them to shine. It can be easily overlooked what true gems these pieces are in their own right.

The concert itself will be somewhat unusual. The string quartet, composed of renowned musicians Sigrún Eðvaldsdóttir, Auður Hafsteinsdóttir, Þórunn Ósk Marinósdóttir and Bryndís Halla Gylfadóttir, will perform classically structured arrangements by Þórður Magnússon (Megas’s son), while pianist Davíð Þór Jónsson will add his brilliance to these arrangements through free improvisation, adding a new dimension and guiding the audience wherever the moment leads.

The concert is the first one held in Megas' honour, since his passing, and are therefore serving as a memorial concert.

Estimated duration: one hour, without intermission.
