What does a langspil sound like – and how do you actually play it?
In this fun, hands-on workshop, Eyjólfur Eyjólfsson introduces children and parents to the world of the langspil. Participants will learn the basics of playing this unique Icelandic instrument and get the chance to try it for themselves.
Along the way, participants will discover the history of the langspil and its role in Iceland’s old farming communities and traditional baðstofa culture. They will learn selected tunes from the folk-song collection of Rev. Bjarni Þorsteinsson, before coming together to perform them on the langspil at the end of the workshop.
The langspil has now found a home in Hljóðhimnar, Harpa’s interactive experience space for children and families, where visitors can discover the instrument and try playing it themselves.
The workshop is designed for children and parents to take part together.
