Iceland is located between Poland and the United States, and this concert brings together musicians who celebrate the music of both countries.

This program invites the audience on a journey through contrasting musical idioms of the 20th and 21st centuries, offering a broad perspective on the expressive capabilities of the flute in both solo and chamber music settings. The repertoire highlights lyrical intensity, rhythmic vitality, and the intimate dialogue between instruments.

We begin with Ewa Fabianska-Jelinska’s Inspiration for two flutes (2019), a contemporary miniature full of interplay and coloristic detail. Next, Wojciech Kilar’s neoclassical Sonatina (1951) brings youthful charm and structural clarity. Pawel Lukaszewski’s Wings Concertino (2021) offers meditative textures and soaring melodic lines in trio form.

Roman Ryterband’s Dialogue for two flutes (1952) features elegant counterpoint and balance. Valerie Coleman’s Fanmi imén (2018), written for solo flute, is a powerful personal narrative blending Afro-Caribbean colors and modern techniques. Finally, Aaron Copland’s Duo (1971) closes the program with its spacious harmonies and heartfelt lyricism.
