Since last autumn, students in 8th–9th grade at Hagaskóli, under the guidance of Steinunn Eldflaug Harðardóttir, composer and video game designer, and Gunnar Gunnsteinsson, composer, have been exploring video game creation from a musical perspective.

Together, the students have created two new video games centered on a musical experience, where players encounter music through the game’s virtual environment. In developing the games, the students have engaged with intriguing questions about the shared narrative forms of music and video games, the relationship between sound and visual worlds, and the connection between the player and the music itself — with the audience becoming active participants who largely control their own experience.

The games will be on display in Stemma at Harpa, where visitors can play it. The game’s creators will also be present during the opening day to discuss its creation and development.

The project is supported by the Children’s Cultural Fund and the video game company CCP.
