International Festival in a unique venue
The Reykjavík Early Music Festival is Reykjavík's first international festival dedicated to early music and historically informed performance. Launched in March 2024 at the iconic Harpa Concert Hall, the festival has quickly established itself as a vibrant meeting place for artists and audiences who share a passion for early music.
Under the artistic direction of violinist Elfa Rún Kristinsdóttir, the festival brings together outstanding Icelandic and international musicians, creating inspiring collaborations that bridge cultures, traditions, and generations. Through concerts, masterclasses, lectures, and educational events, the festival celebrates historical performance practice while encouraging artistic exchange and new perspectives on early music.
Since its inauguration, the festival has welcomed acclaimed artists and ensembles from across Europe, including violinists Rachel Podger, harpsichordist Marcin Świątkiewicz, oboist Xenia Löffler, and internationally renowned ensembles such as Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata, Concerto Scirocco and Arte dei Suonatori.
Held in the heart of Reykjavík, the festival offers audiences the opportunity to experience world-class performances in one of Europe's most striking concert venues, while fostering a growing international community devoted to the richness and diversity of early music.
