Björgvin Halldórsson lived for the stage and for music. A true icon of Icelandic music, his voice and songs have become part of the nation's cultural fabric. On Saturday, November 28, we gather at Eldborg to celebrate his life, his legacy, and the music he leaves behind.

Music was Björgvin’s lifelong passion, and throughout his remarkable career he created and performed many of the most beloved songs in Icelandic popular music. He had planned to mark his 75th birthday with a special tribute concert of his own, and preparations were already underway when he unexpectedly passed away on April 9 this year. In consultation with his family, the decision was made to carry those plans forward. Eldborg had already been booked, Björgvin had personally selected the concert poster image, and he was well into choosing the repertoire and the artists he wanted to share the stage with.

Björgvin always thought big, and this concert will be no exception. Every effort will be made to create a fitting and unforgettable tribute to a man whose impact on Icelandic music is impossible to overstate.

His daughter, Svala, is currently working on a new version of Skýið, a song Björgvin wrote in 1978 and originally released on the album Ég skal syngja fyrir þig. The song holds a special place in the hearts of Icelanders, and Svala’s moving performance of it at her father’s funeral touched the nation. Her new recording of Skýið will be released on June 12.

Svala and Krummi, Björgvin’s son & daughter, will lead an all-star lineup of Icelandic artists onto the stage at Eldborg. Joined by some of the country’s finest musicians and singers, they will celebrate the extraordinary catalogue of songs that Björgvin shared with audiences over the decades.
