Viva Her­meto! - Múlinn Jazzclub

Viva Hermeto! is a new and exciting concert program led by bassist Sigmar Þór Matthíasson. It features a 6‑piece band that performs, among other pieces, music by Brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal, who recently passed away, on September 13 at the age of 89. The aim is to celebrate the life of this remarkable musician - who would have turned 90 years old on June 22, 2026. The music can be described as modern Brazilian music combining acoustic solo instruments with an electric rhythm section. The program includes various Brazilian styles, such as samba, choro, baião, maracatu, marcha and frevo. All arrangements were made by American guitarist and teacher Richard Boukas, who introduced Sigmar to Hermeto Pascoal’s music while Sigmar was studying at The New School in New York from 2013–2016.
