At the Family World Music Festival at Harpa, visitors are invited to enjoy a diverse and vibrant programme in the building's open spaces. Guests can listen to music from different parts of the world, explore musical instruments, take part in singing and dancing, and create crafts inspired by various cultures.

The festival is designed as a warm and creative gathering for all ages, where families can come and go freely. Numerous artists, mother-tongue schools and cultural organisations take part.

Special guests are internationally acclaimed Ingoma Nshya: the women duremmers of Rwanda, who will premier their new work in Borgarleikhúsið during Reykjavík Arts Festival.

The event is a collaboration between Harpa and Reykjavík Arts Festival and sponsored by Barnamenningarsjóður.

Program on stage in Norðurljós:

11:00–11:10 – Grupo de español with a musical performance
11:10–11:20 – Students from Laufásborg perform on Jembe drums and sing

11:20–11:25 – A group from Vinalestur Heiðrúnar performs a song

11:25–11:35 – Students from Fellaskóli present an original performance in various languages

12:10–12:20 – Banda Borealis performs songs from Mexico

12:20–12:30 – Performance from Íranska samfélagið á Íslandi

13:00–13:10 – A string ensemble from Tónskóli Sigursveins performs folk songs

13:10–13:20 – Students from the Russian weekend school perform piano pieces

13:20–13:30 – Khairkhan, a musician from Mongolia, performs music and throat singing

13:30–14:00 – Ingoma Nshya, Rwanda’s first women’s drumming group, closes the program with powerful drumming

11:45–12:00 – Dans Afríka Iceland teaches African dances


12:30–12:45 – Atli Freyr Hjaltason teaches the Icelandic circle dance


12:45–13:00 – Jurgita Motiejunaite teaches Lithuanian games and music

“Different Threads, One Story”: Artist Jelena Bjeletic together with Maria Luiza Souza and Marina Petrovic Stojanovic invite guests of all ages to collaborate on creating a shared wall tapestry inspired by the patterns of the Serbian Pirot kilim.
