Harpa, in collaboration with the Reykjavík Music City and Rás 2, is hosting Upprásin, a concert series dedicated to grassroots Icelandic music, across musical genres. Upprásin is now taking place for the fourth year in a row and a total of 27 bands will perform, three on each concert night.
Ticket prices are only 2000 kr. but it is possible to contribute a higher amount during the ticket sales process, which will go directly to the artists.
Synthea Starlight is from the planet Earth and plays Earth-disco music for fellow Earthlings' enjoyment. Band members are Jara and Thoracius Appotite. Jara has released albums under her own name, in addition to scoring music for film and theater. Thoracius Appotet has released music under his own name and under the name Just Another Snake Cult . He has played in a number of bands including Monsters From Mars. He has produced a handful of albums for other artists as well.
Smurjón is an eclectic, ever-evolving band that gets audiences moving with its quirky and joyful music. The group performed twice at Iceland Airwaves before taking a decade-long hiatus, only to be recently revived for a performance at a surrealist gathering in the Arctic.
Smurjón delights in using a wide variety of instruments to create music that is truly out of the ordinary.
The band consists of Hörður Bragason, Katrín Oktavía Harðardóttir, Ingibjörg Azima Guðlaugsdóttir, Eiríkur Stephensen, Ólafur Sverrir Stephensen, Úlfhildur Júlía Stephensen, Rúnar Gunnarsson, Sighvatur Ómar Kristinsson, Björn Jónsson, and Kristinn H. Árnason.
SÓT is a sludgy, groovy metal band, soul crushing and at times psychedelic. The band recently exploded on to the underground metal scene and are known for their powerful live performances and energy.
"Sludgy, weighty, and at times psychedelic, SÓT’s debut album provides another heavy addition to Iceland’s catalog of outstanding local metal talent. If you get a chance to see them live, which you should, prepare to feel your bones rattle" - Dunder
