Jónsson, Hemstock, Gröndal Quartet – Release Concert - Múlinn Jazzclub

The quartet celebrates the release of its new album with a concert featuring original music by its members. Led by brothers Ólafur and Þorgrímur Jónsson, the quartet explores a progressive approach to jazz, combining strong melodic writing with the freedom and spontaneity of improvisation. The music draws on the traditions of jazz while looking towards new directions. Beautiful and melodic compositions are at the heart of the repertoire, but the musicians are given plenty of space to explore different textures, moods, and possibilities through improvisation. The music therefore moves freely between energetic and open-ended improvisation and more introspective and contemplative compositions, with the interplay between the musicians playing a central role throughout. The new album takes center stage at the concert, offering the audience an opportunity to experience the music in a live setting, where it can evolve and take on new dimensions through the interaction of the musicians. The quartet brings together melodic accessibility, creative improvisation, and a progressive approach to create a vibrant and varied musical experience.
