The Huldur Chamber Choir performs in Norðurljós on Culture Night, presenting a beautiful programme that weaves together beloved Icelandic choral gems with both newly composed and timeless works. The choir is conducted by Hreiðar Ingi Þorsteinsson.
Founded in 2021, Huldur has become an important platform for musical innovation. Since its inception, the choir has premiered dozens of new works composed by its own members. Huldur has performed at concerts and festivals including Hátíðni in Borðeyri, Seigla, Iceland Opera Days, and the European Youth Choir Festival in Basel. The choir recently released its debut album, Í fossgljúfri (In the Gorge), its first recording.
The choir takes its name from a supernatural being in Icelandic folklore. According to legend, the huldur dwells in waterfall gorges or deep beneath the sea, where it stirs the waves through its singing and by playing the langspil, a traditional Icelandic string instrument. Many of the works performed at Huldur's Culture Night concert at Harpa are inspired by the enchanting world of Icelandic folktales, traditional folk poetry, and
legends.
The concert is presented in collaboration with the Dark Music Days festival.
