Stories, Songs and Shadow Theatre for the Whole Family
In spring 2026, children from across the Westfjords came together in a series of creative workshops inspired by the upcoming solar eclipse. This extraordinary natural phenomenon was explored through the perspectives of art, science, and design, resulting in brand-new songs, lyrics, and short films created by the children, inspired by "the shortest night in the world."
On Culture Night at Harpa, audiences are invited to experience Solar Eclipse Songs, featuring the children's songs, poems, and short films accompanied by the magic of shadow theatre. Storyteller Ingibjörg Fríða will also delve into the Treasury of Folktales, sharing stories about solar eclipses from around the world. There is no shortage of tales, as long before scientific explanations existed, people sought to understand this remarkable natural phenomenon through folklore and mythology.
