Geirþrúður Guðmundsdottir performs a daring solo cello recital featuring works by J.S. Bach and Icelandic composer Guðmundur Hafsteinsson.

Bach’s Second Cello Suite is his most intimate and melancholy work for this instrument. It serves as a perfect prelude for Hafsteinsson’s magnificent Spuni (“Spinning”), an ambitious, grand statement that reveals all that a single cello can do. At times meditative, at times almost impossibly virtuosic, this music uses just one instrument to take the listener on a wild and powerful journey.

Programme
J.S. Bach: Cello Suite No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1008
Guðmundur Hafsteinsson: Spinning I

Duration - 1 hour, without intermission.
