Experience an outstanding ballet from Ukraine!
For the first time in Reykjavík!

Only on June 30 at Harpa Hall, as part of the grand tour of the Ukrainian National Ballet — the premiere of the legendary ballet Forest Song (SKÓGARSÖNGURINN), performed by the KSBC company named after Tetyana Tayakina.

Forest Song is one of the most beautiful ballets of Ukraine. For over 75 years, it has remained a jewel of the world’s classical heritage and a hallmark of Ukrainian choreography.

Set in an ancient Ukrainian forest, the ballet tells the story of love between a mystical forest creature, Mavka, and a human, Lukash.

The performance is filled with complex lifts, numerous jumps, and turns. The unforgettable corps de ballet immerses the audience in true classical dance, moving in magical unison and captivating with intricate choreographic patterns. Legends of enchanted forest creatures come to life on stage, evoking awe and wonder.

The ballet is based on the dreamlike drama by the great Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka, with music by the renowned Ukrainian composer Mykhailo Skorulskyi. His score delicately conveys the beauty of the Ukrainian forest and the atmosphere of traditional celebrations. The emotional music immerses the audience in a magical love story while reflecting the subtle tension between the human and natural worlds.

On stage, fantastical creatures such as water nymphs, forest spirits, and other mythical beings come to life, creating a true fairy-tale experience for both adults and children.

Music: Mykhailo Skorulskyi
Libretto: Nataliia Skorulska
Choreography: edited version by Oleksii Kovalenko (after Vakhtang Vronsky)
