Programme:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Allegro í B-major kv. 516c for clarinet and string quartet.
W.A Mozart – String quintet in G-minor kv. 516
-interval-
Johannes Brahms – Quintet for clarinet and strings in B-minor op. 115

Mozart´s 4th string quintet in g minor KV 516, written in 1787, is one of his most well-known chamber works. Depth of emotions, melancholy, remorse and sorrow are characteristic of this work and indeed of this key in Mozart´s composition (his 40th symphony invokes similar feelings.) In order to invoke an even richer timbre, Mozart employs an additional viola, creating a darker, thicker ambience than we hear in his string quartets.

Both Mozart and Brahms held the clarinet in great esteem, impressed both by it´s singing tone and wide register. In the second half of the programmme, the Quintet for clarinet and strings by Johannes Brahms will be performed. The quintet, which was among the last pieces he wrote, is a profound piece but in the slow movement we hear a folkloric influence, the clarinet rhapsodizing over tremolo strings. The quintet is among the most admired masterpieces in chamber-music repertoire.

Camerarctica ensemble was founded in 1992. Camerarctica has organized many music festivals, such as festivals in memory of Hindemith, Fauré, Schubert and Brahms. The ensemble has participated in Dark Music Days, Reykjavik Art Festival and Nordic Music Days. Camerarctica has given concerts organized by the Chamber Music Club every year since 1997 and performed, among other, string quartets by Shostakovich, Bartók and Zelenka sonatas. Camerarctica annually holds very popular concerts at Advent, titled "Mozart by candlelight", and has recorded CDs featuring Mozart’s works.

The concert is approximately one and a half hour in duration with an interval.
