The Troll and the Magic Island is an original story by the chamber ensemble Stundarómur. The story is based on the folktales Soria Moria Castle and The Elves are Deep and follows the troll Ásgerður on her journey around a magical island ruled by two queens and a king. The island is on the brink of ruin because the rulers mistreat nature and the island’s inhabitants. Throughout the story, Ásgerður manages to convince them to change their ways and treat their environment better, and in the end, they all come together to create a brighter future for the island.

This concert features music composed by Stundarómur to accompany a story inspired by Icelandic and Norwegian folktales. The story is told through music and invites children to actively participate through singing and movement. Stundarómur’s goal is to offer preschool children opportunities for growth and enjoyment while introducing them to a wide variety of folk music. Special emphasis is placed on giving children the chance to actively participate in the performance, thereby fostering independent thinking and creativity. Participants will, among other things, learn melodies they can sing along with, movements to accompany the music, and they will also get the opportunity to ask the musicians questions.

The concert is 30 minutes long and is intended for preschool-aged children.

This event is in Icelandic.
