Coro Mundi, an international choir, makes its Iceland debut with a compelling program featuring the world premiere of Sigurður Sævarsson’s Sicut Cervus, and the Icelandic premiere of Alex Berko’s Sacred Place—a six-movement work for choir, piano, violin and cello. Berko describes Sacred Place as “at times a meditation and at times an impassioned prayer for the world we inhabit and share.” The program will also include choral works by David N. Childs, Owain Park, Jake Runestad and Sven-David Sandström
The choir will be joined by violinist Una Sveinbjarnardóttir, leader of the Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, and cellist Júlía Mogensen, co-founder of the KÚBUS ensemble.
Coro Mundi draws its name from its members, highly skilled and passionate singers from around the globe. This performance brings together 45 of Coro Mundi’s finest singers from across the US, Canada and Europe. Choir members also sing in acclaimed ensembles such as the International Orange Chorale of San Francisco, Master Voices of New York City, the Chicago Chorale, the Bel Canto Chorus of Milwaukee, the New London Singers, Choral Chameleon, Opera Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir.
The choir will be led by Music Director Stephen Kushner and accompanied by principal pianist Hee Sung Kim.
