The duo Sóley performs work from various periods of the Western Music History that provide insight into the world of sounds from two grand pianos. The concert will include new icelandic pieces that were specially composed for the duo. The Icelandic composers, together with Händel, Mozart, Ravel, Piazzolla and Shostakovich in collaboration with the performers take the audience on a fantastic journey - deep into the soundworld of the grand piano.

This concert is supported by Ýlir Music Fund, Reykjavik City Centre Fund and the Icelandic Music Fund.

Laufey Sigrún Haraldsdóttir holds a M.Mus in classical piano performance from The Royal Academy of Music in Århus, Denmark, and B.Mus from Iceland Academy of Arts. She has performed as soloist, chamber musician and arranger in classical music, soundscapes and improvisational context. She played regularly in the concert series “Pearls of Icelandic Song” for a few years, while also performing in concerts in Iceland and abroad. During her studies, she participated in masterclasses in Iceland and abroad, and was invited to participate in a Duo-Piano festival in Norway that inspired her to later form Duo Sóley with Sólborg Valdimarsdóttir.

Sólborg Valdimarsdóttir has been an active participant in the Icelandic music scene since she completed her master’s degree in 2011. She has performed at music festivals and concert series such as “Pearls of Icelandic songs”, “Opus festival” in Aarhus and “Opera days” in Iceland. In addition, she has been organizing and performing concerts in Iceland and abroad. Lately Solborg has been performing music for two pianos in duo with Laufey Sigrún Haraldsdóttir.

Sólborg finished her B.Mus. degree from The Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2009 where prof. Peter Máté was her main tutor. She then finished her master’s degree in the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, under the direction of Anne Øland. In Sólborg’s study years, Sólborg made it to the semifinals in the EPTA piano competition, participated in masterclasses in Iceland and abroad with among others Irina Osipova and Murray MacLachlan.
