Music, Jazz and Blues
Múlinn Jazzclub - Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir
Wednesday 10th November - 20:00
Jazz isn't the only musical genre with a rich history of free interpretation and individual approach to expression through improvisation. Even though baroque music can be played according to strict rules and performance tradition there is also a lot of inspiration to be found by the fact that baroque music is full of opportunities for free individual expression, ornaments and improvisation. In this concert, four jazz musicians will approach dance music from French baroque operas and ballets in the same way they would play standards from the American Songbook. Even though this is by no means a historically informed performance in the usual context, the music will be approached with admiration and respect to the great French baroque composers and the traditions that have formed in playing French baroque music. Performers are saxophonist Jóel Pálsson, bassist Valdimar Kolbeinn Sigurjónsson, percussionist Matthías Hemstock and cellist and ensemble leader Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir.
