Kordo String Quartet celebrates Ludwig van Beethoven’s 251st birthday and performs one of Beethoven’s late masterpieces, the String quartet nr. 15 in a-minor op. 132. On the program is also one of Felix Mendelssohn’s chamber music gems, the String quartet nr. 2 op. 13 which was inspired by the late quartets of Beethoven, particularly the op. 132.
Unique opportunity to hear these two masterpieces one after another.
The concert program was originally planned on Beethoven’s 250th birthday last year but had to be postponed because of Covid-19 restrictions.
Kordo String Quartet was founded in 2018 and held it’s first concert in Norðurljós at Harpa in 2019. The quartet has quickly established itself as one of Iceland’s leading chamber music ensembles. Kordo string quartet has performed at the Reykjavík Classics summer series at Harpa, in Tíbrá concert series in Salurinn Concert Hall in Kópavogur and at the Chamber Music Society in Harpa.
Kordo members are violinist Vera Panitch and Páll Palomares, violist Þórarinn Már Baldursson and cellist Hrafnkell Orri Egilsson. They are all members of Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
