The Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra celebrates the holiday season by playing some Bach favourites. Two Brandenburg Concertos, which have been a rarity in Harpa, and the famous E Major Violin Concerto, with concertmaster Una Sveinbjarnardóttir as soloist, but the piece is one of her absolute favourites.
Bach met Prince Christian Ludwig von Brandenburg on his trip to Berlin in 1719, where he bought a harpsichord for his home town Köthen. He collected together six instrumental concertos in 1721 and dedicated them to the prince. The Brandenburg Concertos are considered among the most popular pieces of the Baroque era. Concertos 1 and 4 are presented in the unique interpretation of the ensemble with top artists in each seat.
