Maximus Musikus is without doubt the most famous musical mouse in Iceland. The books about him have enjoyed tremendous popularity with Icelandic children and are now becoming available around the world. The author of the books, Hallfríður Ólafsdóttir, was the principal flautist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for many years, and their illustrator, Thórarinn Már Baldursson, is a viola player in the ISO. The conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy is a special patron of the project.
Maximus Musikus has a permanent home in Harpa and is involved in organizing fun events for children all year round. He is a regular guest at the Symphony’s children’s concerts, and Maxi’s Story Times and Excursions are always popular with Harpa’s youngest guests.
The Maximus Musikus project opens up the world of music, instruments and musicians to children. The music that accompanies Maximus is specially selected for the youngest age group of children, who like to play with the mouse and look excitedly for its hole in Harpa.
